The Oakleigh Forest Civic Association, Inc.
Minutes of the OFCA General Membership Meeting, 25 March 2010
Folger McKinsey Elementary School
Welcome & Introductions:
- Eddie Hubbard welcomes everyone to meeting and introduces Russ Morris (120 Sherburn Rd.) who has offered to help with finances. Eddie reports that the email seems to be successful in getting the word out to neighbors regarding meetings and neighborhood happenings.
Secretary's Report: Eddie for Barb Montgomery
- Minutes of the 28 October 2009 General Meeting were read and approved as written.
Treasurer's Report: Jeff Furniss
- Due to large amounts of money spent on capital improvements in 2009 Eddie announces that we will be much more frugal this year with our expenditures.
- Jeff Furniss submits budget for 2010. Bank BBT Bal is $37,437.32. Loan Balance is $97,399.74. Jeff reports that he is using information submitted by Kathy Krzystan.
- As of this date 95 people have paid their civic association dues (60% collection rate). Dues are not mandatory until you try to sell your home at which point they become mandatory and real estate / settlement agents will confirm that property owners do not owe any back OFCA dues. In 2009, 146 families paid their civic assoc dues.
- There has been a change in the structure of the treasury for the community. It is now decentralized with Eddie Hubbard being responsible for collections and Jeff Furniss in charge of disbursements.
- Steve Patrick wants to know if the waterfront is responsible for 1/3 of the insurance and if so how does he find out what that amount is so that they can include it in the waterfront budget. Eddie will email information to Steve.
- Move to approve treasury report. Edgar Schick seconds and report is approved.
Director's Reports
Grounds: Liz Cingel
- Liz reports that the curbs have been damaged due to snow fall this winter. The greatest damage occurred at 43 Whittier and near 12 Emerson Ct. We will have to wait until mid-May to discover if the sprinklers have also been damaged. Greg Myers and Eddie Hubbard helped to cut back the shrubs. Junipers are in center strips and the right side of the pool driveway. Volunteers are still needed for the "adopt a bed" garden project. A majority of the neighbors have supported the garden club by including payment to garden club with their civic association dues.
Waterfront: Steve Patrick
- Steve reports that all slips have been assigned and published the list in the last Oakleaf. There will be a waterfront clean-up sometime next month.
Social Kelly Cornacchia
- The Easter Egg Hunt is the first social event of 2010. The social committee is looking for volunteers to host community parties and events. Liz Cingel and Sheryl Bond have already agreed to help with the Pig Roast this year. We still need someone to head the committee for this very large social event.
Pool: Greg Myers
- Greg Myers reports that the pool packet should be out the first week of April. The committee's goal is to attract new members to the pool and to utilize the OF pool more. DRD has increased their rates in 2010 and should only impact the average family approx. $25 more. Greg explained the proposed new guest policy this year with pool passes being needed only on Fridays, Sat., Sundays and holidays. The pool committee is using this guest policy this season on a trial basis and will determine if it helps improve our current pool gate controls and guest policy honor system.
- The pool will be open everyday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Even after school opens in the fall the hours of operation will remain the same. He encourages everyone to try to sponsor new people to join the pool.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Mary Gaylord (for Barb Montgomery)
