Dear Swim Team Parents:
Get ready for another great swim team season with the Oakleigh Forest Piranhas! We are looking forward to meeting our new participants and seeing our veteran swimmers back in the pool. Please take the time to carefully review all of the information in this letter, including the team policies, the practice and meet schedules, and the description of volunteer positions. There are some changes this year.
Our Coach: Richard Heim
We are very pleased to welcome back Richard Heim as our coach. Richard has been involved in swimming for nineteen years. He works full-time as an engineer and also works as an assistant coach for SPY swimming. Over the past four years, Richard has led the Oakleigh Forest Piranhas to an impressive 22-1 record. We want to continue this winning tradition in 2010. Go Piranhas!
Registration
This year, the fee for the 1st child in a family is $60.00; each additional child is $50.00; late registration is an additional $20.00. Please note that there will be no reimbursements given after our first practice on June 2, 2010. All checks should be made payable to Oakleigh Forest Swim Team Boosters (OFSTB). Payment is due by Saturday, May 15, 2010. Please deliver your check and registration form to Jen Mills, 25 Whittier Parkway.
Swim Team Policies & Criteria for Membership
With the growing number of 6 and under children, the acceptance of non-swimmers is not practical. It is not in the coach's job description to give lessons. He is hired to "coach". This implies that every child on the team can swim unassisted. Therefore, for acceptance on the roster, the ability to swim one length of the pool prior to the FIRST MEET will be required. Now is the time to register for lessons if this is necessary.
Consistent with the ESP League rules, participation in three of the six regular meets is required to qualify for a post-season (medal) meet. The same requirement must be met to earn a team trophy at the end of the season.
This is a volunteer organization for our community children. In order for each swim meet to run smoothly, it is mandatory that each family participate. There are many ways to volunteer. We require that at least one family member work every meet. To be successful as a team, we must enforce this commitment. You will find the list of volunteer positions and duties with this packet. Please indicate your choice(s) on your registration. We will do our best to accommodate your request.
Any questions or concerns pertaining to swim team should be directed to Linda Goodman or any other member of the board. We are requesting this because the practice schedule is very tight and Coach Richard needs to give 100% of his attention to coaching the swimmers. Any ESP League questions should be directed to our league representative, Quinn Roy.
No one, other than swim team members, is permitted in the pool (including the baby pool) during the swim team practice sessions.
Swim Team Suits
Swim team suit fittings and purchases will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 8th at the Oakleigh Forest Pool. The sales representatives will leave promptly at 7:00 p.m. If you arrive late, you will miss them! If you can't make the fitting time, please contact Linda Goodman in advance and she will take your order. An order form will be sent via email for you to print and drop off. Other Important Dates
On Saturday, May 29, 2010, the Swim Team will host Oakleigh Forest's annual Memorial Day picnic. A registration flyer will be distributed to mailboxes and by email in mid-May.
Finally, ESP League training for volunteers will be held at the Whitehurst clubhouse on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. If you're new to swim team, or you're interested in taking on a new volunteer position this year, please plan to attend.
