Pool Inclement Weather Policy

The top priority of the Pool Committee and the Pool Management Company is to ensure the health and safety of the lifeguards and pool patrons.

The Pool Management Company works closely with the Pool Committee throughout the season. The Pool Management Company shall have the authority to close the pool during inclement weather and shall be prepared to reopen
the pool when the weather conditions permit.

Inclement weather shall be considered when there is thunder, lightning, cloud cover and temperature below 70 degrees, or in the case of heavy rain that obstructs vision of the main drains at the bottom of the pool. The following guidance shall be followed unless the inclement weather starts within two (2) hours of closing time and continues for more than thirty (30) minutes - in this case the pool may be closed early for the evening at the discretion of the pool management company.
  • In the case of thunder, the lifeguards shall clear the pool and only permit re-entry 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder is heard.
  • In the case of lightning, the lifeguards shall clear the pool and only permit re-entry 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder is heard / flash of lightning is seen. When lightning is present it is recommended that all patrons take cover under the pavilion and away from away surface water. Water fixtures should not be operated during this time. Patrons should only leave the pool if accompanied by an adult and if it is safe to do so.
  • In the case of cloud cover and temperature below 70 degrees the Pool Management Company and Pool Committee shall evaluate the projected pool usage and weather forecast for the remainder of the day. In the event of an early pool closure, members will be notified via email ASAP.
  • In the case of heavy rain, the lifeguards shall clear the pool and only permit re-entry when heavy rain stops or eases meaning the main drains are again visible.
We ask that our patrons support the lifeguards when they are making decisions regarding weather. If there are ever any issues or concerns you may email the Pool Committee at ofcapool@gmail.com
